Hello ...
I'm Jane Gurney!
I am an Integrative Counsellor and Hypnotherapist with a specialist focus in cancer care, end of life and bereavement support.
Much of my work centres around supporting individuals navigating the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis — whether personally or alongside someone they love.
I collaborate with Bosom Buddies Bristol, supporting women who are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or adjusting to life beyond breast cancer. I have also volunteered at St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol, where I supported patients at end of life and walked alongside families through the early stages of bereavement.
These experiences continue to shape my practice, deepening my respect for the complexity of grief, the uncertainty of serious illness, and the quiet strength people draw upon in the most difficult moments.
Supporting people at these times is not something I approach lightly. I understand how vulnerable it can feel to speak about fear, anger, sadness or the exhaustion that often goes unseen. Creating a space where those conversations can happen safely and without judgement sits at the heart of my work.
My Approach
As an Integrative Counsellor, I draw from Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis approaches within a recognised ethical framework. This allows me to tailor therapy to you as an individual, rather than expecting you to fit into one fixed model.
Alongside counselling, I offer Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, working with the here and now while gently supporting future goals. This can be particularly helpful for managing anxiety, building resilience and restoring a sense of steadiness during uncertain times.
Where appropriate, I incorporate creative exercises and reflective tools into sessions, helping you explore your inner world in ways that feel accessible and meaningful. I attend regular CPD and professional workshops to ensure my work remains thoughtful, ethical and informed.
Additional Areas of Expertise
While my primary focus is cancer and bereavement support, I also work with adults navigating ADHD, helping you understand and work with your strengths — recognising that ADHD is not a behaviour issue, but part of who you are.
I am also a qualified Adult Adoption Counsellor and work privately with adult adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents exploring adoption-related experiences.
